Hello! Batterystaple’s a fully remote team with no hard restrictions on what time zone you’re in or what hours you work. We’re a small team, so everyone’s input and feedback about the direction of our games is critical.
We previously made 20XX and 30XX, and now we’re trying something a bit different.
We’re currently working on Project Pagliacci (unannounced, codename), a 2D variety game/chaos generator/laugh-with-your-friends simulator. It’s a chaotic/comedic multiplayer romp that mixes action puzzles, co-operative minigames, and a sprinkling of low-stakes PVP. We’re aiming for a high-energy, expressive, chaotic visual style, so if that sounds up your alley, drop us a line!
We’re looking for artists and animators to help bring the game’s chaos to life, as well as a player/coach art director to help define the game’s art style (additionally responsible for being in tune with the game and its needs, while also producing assets).
These are contract positions, and we’re open to both full-time and part-time applicants. Compensation for all positions commensurate with experience.
Open Position: 2D Artist/Animator
Batterystaple is looking for 2D artists and animators to help bring our latest title to life. We’re targeting a chaotic, high-energy, vibrant 2D art style.
We’re looking to cover two main bases, either as one hired role or split into two, depending on our candidate search.
Character design & animation
Pagliacci’s characters are small and minimalist in detail, and our goal’s to pack them with as much charm and expressiveness as possible as they run, jump, honk, paint, and generally upset their teammates with their antics.
Environment art & animation
Game levels, environments, in-game mechanics objects players interact with – the ideal candidate can help us set the game’s playful mood with style without taking moment-to-moment visual focus from gameplay.
Ideal candidates have proven experience doing similar work on at least one shipped title.
Requirements
– At least one shipped title (or other compelling evidence that you’re good at this)
– Desire to make players laugh & smile via your artwork – Pagliacci is not a grimdark title (even if it does contain some dark humor!)
– Strong self-motivation – we’re a small team with a pretty light-touch management approach
– Detail-orientation & organizational skills
Open Position: Art Director
In addition to the responsibilities of the above Artist/Animator role, it’s the Art Director’s job to help us define the game’s visual style and keep the team’s output aligned with the game’s needs.
Ideal candidates here are eager to get involved with the game at a close level, and provide input and suggestions for the game’s vision in addition to producing assets as needed.
